A project bullet should tell a reader what you did and give them a useful technical follow-up. Start with the underlying facts before choosing a stronger verb.
Collect four pieces: the question, your personal contribution, the evaluation method and the supported result. Add a boundary that prevents the sentence from claiming more than the work established.
An original fictional transformation
Before: “Built an advanced machine-learning trading strategy that generated alpha.”
Available evidence: a synthetic dataset, three-person course project, a linear forecast and a later-row evaluation. The candidate implemented the split and baseline. No live strategy or economic return was measured.
After: “Implemented time-ordered evaluation and a constant baseline for a synthetic forecasting project; identified an unavailable feature and documented the corrected comparison.”
The revision makes the contribution inspectable. It also removes the unsupported trading claim. A reviewer can now ask when the feature became available, which rows fitted the model, and what changed after the repair.
Add a metric only when it helps
If you have a verified result, identify the metric, comparator and setting. “Reduced held-out mean squared error by 12% against a constant forecast on a synthetic dataset” is interpretable only if you can explain the holdout, baseline and calculation. The number is a fictional wording example, not a suggested result to copy.
An honest methodological contribution can be stronger without a number. Finding a future-valued feature is meaningful even if the corrected model becomes less impressive.
Separate your work from the team's
“Built the research system” may imply ownership of everything. If you wrote the evaluation layer, say so. Mention the shared project context where it prevents a misleading impression. You do not need to enumerate every collaborator in each bullet, but your wording should survive a direct question about authorship.
A quick editing worksheet
For each bullet, answer: What action did I take? On what object? What choice required judgment? How was the result evaluated? Which artifact or fact supports it? What might a reader infer that is not true?
If the last answer reveals an invented scale, commercial impact or level of ownership, repair that before improving style.
Check the finished sentence
Read the bullet aloud and ask someone to describe what they think you personally did. If they infer a live trading result from a classroom simulation, the wording still needs work.
